Police constable degree apprenticeship (PCDA) – Level 6 degree apprenticeship

This three year programme appeals to those who wish to attain a degree. Earn whilst you learn, with no student loans to repay. You will work towards a Level 6 BSc degree in Professional Policing Practice, while training to become a Police Officer or Detective making a difference to Hampshire & Isle of Wight communities. 

The PCDA training focuses on practical learning and is specifically designed to prepare you for policing. There will be an element of classroom-based studying throughout which will help to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to be a police officer. However, you’ll be employed as a Police Officer from day one and will spend the vast majority of your time on the frontline with experienced Officers.  

Throughout your training, you’ll undertake a number of operational deployments including: 

• Response - this involves responding to emergency calls from the public and going out to the scene of the incident (DPT)   
• Neighbourhood policing - this involves working with a neighbourhood policing team (NPT) of police officers and police community support officers who are dedicated to policing a certain community or area.   
• Investigations – using all the tools available to you both office based and out in the community.    

You’ll be supported every step of the way with coaching and tutoring, and you’ll be working alongside experienced officers throughout. You will be appointed a tutor constable to who will chart your progress as you alternate between periods of study and working on the front line, putting theory into practice with help from officers and staff.    

And at the end of three years, you’ll gain a Level 6 Degree in Professional Policing Practice.

Police community support officer apprenticeship

PCSO Level 4 apprenticeship programme of learning

We are currently recruiting for PCSOs

As a trainee PCSO you will be provided with the opportunity to improve your skills, knowledge and behaviours supported by a structured training programme. Your development will consist of both classroom, on-line and work-place training elements, with you being at the centre of the learning experience. Your learning experience can be tailored to meet your specific learning requirements and you are actively encouraged to discuss your individual needs with the supporting staff at all stages of your development.

The programme is designed to enable you to demonstrate full operational competence (FOC) inclusive of achievement of the L4 Diploma in Community Policing Practice by month 12. Once you have achieved your Diploma you focus on completing your Apprenticeship by month 15.

In your first week of training you will receive a full induction to the Apprenticeship and Qualification. The Qualification (Skills for Justice Awards Level 4 Diploma in Community Policing Practice) has been structured around the PCSO National Policing curriculum set by the College of Policing. 

• The apprenticeship is an additional benefit of joining the Contact Mangement Team, it is open to all new starters 18 and over, that do not have experience of working in an emergency call handling environment.

• It is a nationally recognised qualification that is attained once all training is complete and criteria has been met, usually between month 13 -18.

• It is OFSTED monitored meaning you receive a high standard of training, support and guidance.

• The qualification is completed during work hours.

• It is a requirement of the Apprenticeship programme, if you do not have English and Maths GCSEs grades A*-C (or equivalent), that you are given the support to achieve them, prior to completion of the Apprenticeship.
