Police Staff
Join as Police staff and help us make a difference
Police staff play an important role in delivering our force priorities and providing a huge range of services and specialist knowledge. They are essential to our ability to effectively police Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and play a key role in helping us to be an effective force.
Police staff roles are critical, diverse and wide-ranging, with hundreds of different positions available across the Constabulary. These range from specialised professional roles such as;
- HR
- ICT
- Forensics
- Communications
- Legal
- Procurement and finance
to a range of front-line and operational roles, including;
- PCSOs
- Detention Officers
- Contact Management (999 and 101 Call Handling)
- Victim and Witness Care
- Front-counter Officers
- Police Staff Investigators
Across the Force we have intelligence staff, analysts and researchers supporting crime reduction, and compliance and licencing teams maintaining public safety. We also have occupational health and safety experts providing guidance on physical and mental wellbeing for all staff. There is also a professional standards team to ensure we all work to the highest standards of behaviour. We even have a force chaplain.
There are many roles within Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary that people would not initially consider to be traditional police service roles. Police staffing really is an extensive staff group.
Where do I fit in?
Police staff facilitate and support our warranted officer colleagues in their front-line delivery.
Each role has a part to play – acting like the numerous cogs in a much larger mechanism. The majority of our front line services would not operate effectively without people being vetted, recruited, equipped, trained; without our call handlers responding and dispatching, our Resource Management Team planning rota cover, our Vehicle technicians maintaining our fleet, or our Stores team supplying the kit required. Police staff roles are therefore crucial to organisational success.
Could I join the team?
In short, yes! Whatever your interest we are likely to have something suitable. We look for all kinds of skills, because we know it takes all kinds of people to protect the public and make a real difference to people’s lives. Problem solving, compassion, resilience, respect, courage and teamwork; these are the qualities we are looking for. Different individuals will bring different strengths to a role – varying insights, experience and ideas.
Our aim is to recruit talented people with a diverse range of skills and experiences and we welcome applications from all sections of the community. Additional support or adjustments may also be available during the recruitment process for those with a protected characteristic or those from under-represented groups.
Whoever you are, and whatever you are able to offer us, working for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary provides the opportunity to really make a difference, providing a sense of satisfaction and achievement.
If you want you to work in an environment in which you can be proud of your contribution and in which your uniqueness is valued please get in touch or apply via our vacancies portal. You can even register for future job alerts.
Why should I apply?
People become police staff for all kinds of reasons. Some like the flexibility and job security that we can offer. Many roles are open to hybrid working (a mix of home and office-based) or other flexible working arrangements. Sometimes we find that people are attracted by the public service nature of our organisation and the desire to do something that makes a tangible difference to their community.
Others join with a view to gaining additional skills and experience. We are a large organisation with all the potential opportunity for development and progression that can bring. We have a number of staff networks and interest groups across the Constabulary, and you would be part of a wider force family. We’d love for you to join us.
