At Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, we are proud to welcome individuals from military backgrounds into our policing team. We recognise the strength, leadership, and resilience you bring, qualities that are vital to the work we do and the communities we serve.

Whether you are planning your transition or have recently left the military policing offers a natural next step. It is a role where your skills are recognised, your background is respected, and your contribution truly matters.

You will take on new challenges with purpose and have clear opportunities to develop, specialise, and progress.

Transfer your skills – Your experience, discipline, and leadership from the Armed Forces provides a strong foundation for a successful and fulfilling career in policing.

A role that makes an impact – Policing is more than enforcing the law. It’s about protecting the vulnerable, supporting communities, and making a tangible difference every single day.

Your career, your pathway – Joining us isn’t just a job, it’s a career. Whether you are looking to specialise in areas such as firearms, cybercrime, traffic, or public protection or aiming for promotion. We offer the structure and support to help you grow.

A purpose and belonging – Be part of a close knit team with shared values.

Excellent pay and benefits – Competitive salary with added additional allowances, a generous pension, paid leave and support for a work-life balance.

Tailored support for veterans – A welcoming environment, structured training, mentoring and support from our Armed Forces champions from the moment you enquire, through the joining process and into your career.

At Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary every member of our team, whether a warranted officer, police staff, volunteer, or cadet plays a vital role in achieving our vision to make Hampshire and the Isle of Wight safe for everyone. This is a shared responsibility, driven by our unwavering commitment to:

  • Relentlessly pursue criminals
  • Put victims first
  • Deliver exceptional local policing

We believe that the service we provide must be visible, connected, and trusted. This is achieved by actively listening to our communities and working collaboratively to solve the issues that matter most to them.

We also recognise that a police force which reflects the diversity of the communities it serves is better equipped to deliver effective, inclusive policing. That is why we welcome and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds because representation strengthens trust, understanding, and operational excellence.

We value the skills, experience, and dedication of those who have served in the Armed Forces. If you’re a service leaver, we offer tailored support throughout your transition into policing:

Dedicated Military Recruitment Officer – You’ll have a dedicated point of contact during the recruitment process to guide and support you every step of the way.

Buddy Scheme – Once employed, you’ll be offered the opportunity to connect with a colleague who has already transitioned from military to police. They’ll be available for advice, support, and guidance as part of our Buddy Scheme.

Armed Forces Forum – Join a vibrant community of veterans, reservists, adult cadet leaders, and service family members. The forum meets regularly to discuss challenges faced by the armed forces community, share experiences and support and work together to improve conditions within the force and the wider community.

Armed Forces Covenant Commitment – We proudly uphold the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring that those who serve or have served and their families are treated fairly and with respect in the communities they protect.
