Where is Police Officer Training held?
Police Officer training for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Constabulary takes place at our dedicated training centre in Netley, Southampton. The initial training programme lasts 18 weeks, providing new recruits with the skills and knowledge they need to begin their policing career.
Is the travel expense paid for?
Yes. The force covers your travel expenses, including the ferry crossing and a taxi from the ferry port to Netley.
If you prefer to stay locally during the week, the force will also contribute £100 per week towards accommodation costs.
Will I be posted on the Island?
If you live on the Isle of Wight, we will make every effort to ensure you are posted locally. However, there may be occasions when you are required to travel and work on the mainland to support operational needs.
What is the career progression on the Island?
Career progression on the Isle of Wight mirrors that of the wider Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. Opportunities to advance are based on training, skills, and role availability, ensuring that officers on the Island have the same chance to develop their careers as colleagues on the mainland.

What are the entry routes for a Police Constable?
